Extruding a range of materials from PVC to HDPE

As plastic extrusion manufacturers, we work with a wide range of plastic types to provide suitable extrusions for all applications. Plastics we use for our extrusion profiles include:

  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
  • Polystyrene (PS)
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Polycarbonate (PC)

We are specialised in extruding many different plastics, but are especially skilled in extruding polycarbonate extrusions for tough, lightweight and optically transparent parts.

Follow this link for a full list of materials we use for extrusions.

What products can be made from plastic extrusions?

Plastic Extrusion is the process of pressing liquid plastic through a profiling tool and cooling it once outside the die to keep the shape of the profile. This generates an elongated piece of plastic with the shape of the profile all the way along.

Because plastic extrusions can have an almost infinite range of profile shapes, the uses are extremely varied. We provide extrusion profiles to transport, food & drink, logistics and other sectors we work with, creating products including:

  • Weather-stripping
  • Signage and display components
  • Fencing
  • Window frames
  • Wire insulation
  • Tubes
  • Various Retail Components
  • Wall cladding trims
  • Flooring
  • Tile trims

Signage and Display Components

Plastic extrusions are often used in the creation of signs and displays that require trims, tubes and edging. This includes ticketing and point-of-sale displays, which can be achieved using plastic extrusions easily.

Medical Devices

Where devices use tubing, such as catheters, dialysis machines and drips, these are made using plastic extrusions in flexible and easily cleaned materials.

Hoses and Tubes

Many types of tubes, from garden hoses to industrial fluid transports, are created using plastic extrusion. We can create tubes and hoses of any diameter and thickness, using materials to create flexible hoses or rigid tubes.

Custom Profiles

This page details our standard plastic extrusion profiles, but we also offer custom options. Manufacturers can create bespoke plastic extrusion profiles to meet specific industrial or consumer needs.

How are plastic extrusions made?

In simple terms, the process of manufacturing plastic extrusions goes as follows:

  1. Melt the plastic material
  2. Press melted material through a mould to shape it
  3. Cool it down quickly to retain the shape
  4. Cut the extrusion into the desired lengths
  5. Check for quality

After all these steps, our plastic extrusion profiles are ready to be used.

Should you use our plastic extrusion services?

As with all products, there are advantages and disadvantages that come with plastic extrusions. To help you assess whether plastic extrusion services suit your needs, here are some of the pros and cons.

Advantages of Plastic Extrusions

Cost Effective

Plastic Extrusion profiles are efficient and quick to manufacture, so they provide a cost-effective solution for creating complex profiles, when compared to other manufacturing processes.

Reduced Waste

The plastic extrusion process operates continuously, extruding the plastic to the correct shape. Because of this, there is minimal material waste.

Material Variety

Various plastic materials can be extruded, including PVC, HDPE, PE, PP and PC. This allows flexibility in the material selection based on application needs. If you need help choosing a material, let us know and we’ll be more than happy to advise.

Disadvantages of Plastic Extrusions

Size Limitations

There may be limitations on the size of profiles that can be extruded, both in terms of width and thickness.

Temperature Range

Different types of plastic are suitable for different applications. For instance, we would not recommend PVC for applications in areas that are below 0°C but are well placed to offer suggestions of suitable alternatives.
